It’s finally been remade
LegoMum· Review provided by LEGO · July 19, 2024
My son really enjoyed building this and he especially enjoyed building the wings. The mini figures are great too. The new imperial commander minifigure is really fun to say, and Darth Vader is a good inclusion. The gonk droid is a bit generic but it’s fun to get. The major complaint is with the tie bomber pilot. It is a new mini figure, but Lego don’t seem to care that you can see the back of the head because of the design of the helmet. It should have been an all-black face with some face printing on the front like we see in the movies. Some positives of this set: the hover lift which can be used to store extra bombs, and the tie bomber itself which looks really sleek and new. The feature where you can drop bombs with the flick fire missiles is really fun and it’s easy to get a mini figure into the cockpit. Overall this is a really great set.
Good and bad

First off, this set is pretty cool. The bomber looks nice and the dropping feature is cool, but the dropping feature leaves a gaping hole in the top! That’s pretty weird. But then, there’s the figures. TIE pilot obviously makes sense, and the gonk droid (not a figure, brick built) is nice looking. And then there’s Vader. Why? Why is Vader in this set? I would assume that this is from ESB (or maybe Mandalorian or ROTJ) because they all feature TIE bombers, but why is Admiral Sloane in there? She’s practically never seen AT All in any movies and it would be better to have a random Imperial officer or a maintenance crew member.
2023 Tie Bomber

I just got back into Lego recently, after collecting for numerous years as a child, which has impelled me to leave this review today. I typically don’t leave reviews unless something is really good or really bad, so here we go. The build itself is nice, and I am pleased that it was not downsized compared to its original, as many Star Wars ships are being downsized by Lego nowadays. Sadly, that’s really the only good thing I have to say about the set, so now onto the bad things. I would have to assume that this tie bomber is from ESB considering you only see the tie bomber in the hangar in ROTJ. That said, why is there a 40th Anniversary of ROTJ on the box??? Another issue I have is with the minifigures. 2 out of the 4, I mean 2 out of the THREE minifigs (a brick built gonk droid IS NOT a minifigure) don’t make sense in the set. There was really no need for Vader to be in this set, it feels as though they just threw him in. As for Sloane, was she in ESB? Or ROTJ for that matter? I don’t think so. Sloane is not an appropriate minifig for a tie bomber set. Almost makes you think they’re checking off boxes/filling quotas with this Sloane figure. Speaking of which I am growing tired of Lego having to check off boxes for the social justice warriors, from this set, to renaming SLAVE 1 to Boba Fett’s Starship, along with many other examples. It’s pathetic. I won’t even get into price on this tie bomber as we know all lego sets nowadays are significantly overpriced. One more thing, maybe the bombs could’ve been a blue color instead of the yellow? Nonetheless it’s a good ship, however the set as a whole has been ruined by upper leadership in Lego.
It's the bomb...or is it?

Well, here we go with another scaled-down version of a pretty cool ship from a galaxy far far away. The tie bomber is a very interesting ship. There's little intricacies on the hull that I feel Lego have actually nailed here. Normally for a display piece I would remove the goofy stud shooters as they usually look out of place. However with this set they actually accurately add to the front detail given the tiny scale of this ship. I'm not a fan of how small these ships are being made or the slightly over inflated price tags. However this one is pretty good! It's a hefty feeling set when completed and put together quite well. The only real gripe I have with the design is where the wings attach to the fuselage. If you leave off the gray 2x2 plates you get a more accurate looking joint. Adding a few black 1x1s gets you the proper wing angle and looks much better. The minifigures are pretty good for what they are and the gonk droid is a nice little addition. Although I'm not sure why he has "cargo" written on the back of him. The bomb transport is an ok feature I suppose. I would have rather had pieces to cover the gaping hole in the fuselage or add some details to the bottom where the model looks a bit unfinished since I won't be playing with this set. But all said and done it's a pretty solid set even for the money. Is it "the bomb"? Eh I don't think so but it's certainly not bad.
